Can a Temperature Zoning System Save Me Money?
If you have rooms in your home that go largely unused, you can save money by having a temperature zoning system installed. Your home will be just as comfortable while you save money on your utility bills.
What Is a Temperature Zoning System?
When you have an HVAC company install this system in your home, it’s split into zones. Each zone has its own thermostat and temperature. There are dampers placed in your ductwork that block air as needed so that each zone has independent heating and cooling.
Each thermostat is connected to a central controller, and so whenever it asks for airflow your HVAC system is turned on. Once the zone has reached its desired temperature, your HVAC system turns off.
High Country HVAC of Centerville, UT, installs and repairs temperature zoning systems. We’ve been helping families with their heating and cooling needs for more than 30 years.
Isn’t This Bad for My HVAC System?
You may have been told that shutting vents in unused rooms is unwise. HVAC systems are calibrated for a certain amount of airflow, which closed vents prevent. Zoning systems get around this by having a bypass duct that ensures proper airflow.
When airflow is cut off by a zone damper, air passes through the bypass duct to go into the return air back to your HVAC equipment. This results in airflow through your furnace and the air handler not being affected.
How Do I Save Money?
A temperature zoning system gives you the ability to not heat or cool rooms you seldom use. Many families save up to 30% on their normal utility bills because of this. Another way you save money is by not having to heat your home to the temperature of the person who wants it the hottest.
